Description

The Chirimen fabric used for this piece has an irregular weave.
The Hana-Karakusa pattern is similar to an arabesque. This pattern is one of the thousands of traditional Japanese Edo Komon that can be worn for formal occasions. It is the most popular of all the auspicious patterns among women because of its beautiful design.
The Edo Komon was originally popular as a men's kimono. Therefore, cute patterns were rare in the Edo period and have long been popular among women.
Hana-Karakusa is a flower that resembles a flower but cannot be identified. This design is different from ordinary plant designs. It is said that the reason for this is that when it was introduced to Japan during the Asuka period (710-794), many of the designs depicted exotic plants.
Karakusa (Arabesque) has the meaning of "development" and "prosperity" because it spreads endlessly and has a strong life force.
This kimono is a very beautiful piece, with its bright gold-like colors shining well against the deep green of the ground color.
