Description

The Tango Chirimen fabric used in this piece has an irregular weave. Tango Chirimen is mainly produced in the Tango region of Kyoto Prefecture. The surface of the fabric has fine irregularities, called shibo, which make it wrinkle-resistant and flexible. The diffuse reflection of the unevenness makes the dyed color rich and deep. Tango Chirimen is a typical Japanese silk fabric with the texture of silk. For 300 years, Tango artisans have produced some of the most advanced kimonos in Japan. As a result, Tango has become the largest producer of silk fabrics in Japan, and today about 70% of all kimonos in Japan are made of Tango silk.
This piece is made of kimono fabric with a playful plum pattern in the traditional Japanese Edo Komon pattern, which is said to have thousands of different patterns.
The base color of this kimono is "deep scarlet". It is an old Japanese color dyed with bright madder and purple. This color represents the color of the sky at the beginning of dawn.
The color of the plum blossoms on this kimono is called kincha in Japanese; kincha is a light brown with golden tints, similar to the color of wild fuki. It appears in "Tousei Somemono Kagami" written in 1696 (Genroku 9) during the Edo period (1603-1868), indicating that it was already commonly dyed during the Genroku period. Plum blossoms have been the most familiar flower pattern to the Japanese since ancient times.

Can I check my privacy information or request you to correct it?
